		<description>Listening to the podcast now, just finished the first segment which I missed inworld.

I just have to say that I completely disagree with the sentiment that ended the segment.  You want them to fix the problems, but not make it so some people can&#039;t get in because their hardware isn&#039;t up to it?   That&#039;s not possible, not if you really want the world to get better.   If the software industry had been restricted by those constraints, we&#039;d still be able to run stuff on Windows 3.0 using a 386 and things would look like crap and work like crap.

Windlight was an upgrade, yes in part, but it is also new technology and new program code that changes how the visual stuff is handled so that hopefully it will end up being less buggy and easier to extend and work with.   You want them to fix it and make it less buggy and work better, so they&#039;ve invested in new technology to do that so you&#039;re getting what you want, you now need to be patient while it settles down.

Same goes for Havok, they&#039;ve spent a lot of effort to upgrade the software to make things better and yes there are bugs because of it.

People are looking at Windlight and Havok as enhancements, but they&#039;re bug fixes.   Yes, there are new elements which are enhancements, but those are secondary.

Besides which, people are complaining about the wrong stuff, the &quot;problems&quot; that seem to be happening most often have nothing to do with the viewer or Havok, they have to do with the backend database servers handing that bloody asset server.  And when they take steps to fix it there will be any number of people complaining about the inevitable problems that will result.

Can&#039;t have &quot;fix the problems&quot; and &quot;don&#039;t disrupt the experience&quot; at the same time, not living on the bleeding edge of this virtual world technology.

I&#039;ll grant that there are things they could have handled better, but think about it, when you talk about how it was better a year or two ago, that was when fewer people were in SL, IMO the problem is scalability and until they get a handle on the asset server problems there&#039;ll continue to be problems in SL no matter what they do the viewer and other things.

That&#039;s my rant.  Been listening to Radar too much. ;)</description>
